MRA makes its presence felt at Waste 2018

By MRA Consulting Group

Waste2016_CMYKWell regarded as Australia’s leading waste management conference, the Waste 2018 brought together over 600 delegates, including representatives from approximately 100 local councils, 76 sponsors and exhibitors and 130 presenters, both nationally and internationally. It was held over 8-10 May at Opal Cove Resort in Coffs Harbour.

MRA’s representation was substantial across the two-and-a-half-day program, beginning with Mike Ritchie facilitating a panel discussion on the highly topical China National Sword policy and its impact on Australia’s recycling industry (watch the discussion here).

Virginia Brunton presented ‘Busting the FOGO myths’, a familiar theme to readers of the blog.

Ron Wainberg presented EfW: what is possible and why is it necessary?’.

Mike Ritchie made additional appearances presenting both ‘Waste regulations and levies – the Federation is failing before our eyes!’ and The maths of Council verge collections’ on the final day.

Charlotte Wang presented ‘The NSW CDS – issues and priorities for MRFs and Council together with Gavin Shapiro, Partner at Hones Lawyers. Overall, MRA presented in 5 of the 80+ sessions.

The conference culminated with the exciting news that MRA has pledged 200 hours of pro bono consulting services to Waste Aid Australia, a move matched by Impact Environmental. Waste Aid Australia is an Australian not-for-profit organisation formed in response to the lack of adequate waste management services in remote and disadvantaged communities. We are excited to partner with Waste Aid and look forward to assisting with delivering public health, environmental and social outcomes in disadvantaged and remote communities through positive waste management solutions.
