Sustainability Victoria announces $750,000 bioenergy funding opportunity

Total of $750,000 in funding is available for government organisations (including state, local and federal), community organisations, businesses and social enterprises over two streams.

Details of the grant funding are summarised below and at the SV website:

Stream 1 – Infrastructure $50,000 – $750,000 per project

  • Projects including purchase, install or upgrade bioenergy infrastructure or equipment
  • Co-contribution of $2 to every $1 of funding for social enterprises and community organisations
  • Co-contribution of $3 to every $1 of funding for business and industry applicants
Eligible applicantsProject requirementsFunding per applicant
Government organisations (including local, state and federal), community organisations, businesses and social enterprises that have:
– been in operation for at least 12 months
– satisfactory environmental, safety and financial performance.
This grant assists projects that are seeking to purchase, install, commission or upgrade bioenergy infrastructure or equipment to recover and reprocess food and other organic waste diverted from landfill.

Successful infrastructure projects will:
• contribute to diversion of food or organic waste from landfill from the commercial and industrial or municipal solid waste sectors
• be for bioenergy facilities under a 5-megawatt capacity
• generate energy (heat, biofuels or electricity) for use behind the meter or export electricity to the grid or for use as transport fuels
• be located and processing feedstock in Victoria
• not compete with avoidance, reuse or recycling (principles of the waste hierarchy)
• demonstrate that the technology has a proven technical and commercial track record in Australia and/or internationally
• use technology already been identified and ready to be deployed
• have the potential to be replicated to other sites in Victoria (for the same or similar industry).
$50,000-$750,000 available per project.

This funding type is conditional on a co-contribution of money:
• For applications by business and industry, each $1 of funding from this grant must be matched by a $3 co-contribution.
• For applications by government, social enterprises, community organisations, each $1 of funding from this grant must be matched by a $2 co-contribution.
• In-kind co-contributions do not count towards the required co-contribution but can still be listed under other contributions in the budget section of the application form.

Stream 2 – Business case or feasibility/technical study $20,000 – $100,000 per project (matched funding)

  • To develop a business case, feasibility or technical study for any Victorian bioenergy facility
Eligible applicantsProject requirementsFunding per applicant
Government organisations (including local, state and federal), community organisations, businesses and social enterprises that have:
– been in operation for at least 12 months
– met satisfactory environmental, safety and financial performance.
This funding is for developing a business case, feasibility or technical study for any bioenergy facility in Victoria.

Successful business cases or feasibility/technical studies must:
• support the development of a proposed facility to recover and reprocess food or organic waste from the commercial and industrial or municipal solid waste sectors
• be for a proposed facility located in Victoria
• be for a proposed facility that will process feedstock from Victoria
• be undertaken by someone with expertise in conducting business cases, feasibility/ technical studies.
$20,000-$100,000 available per project.

This funding type is conditional on a co-contribution of money.
Each $1 of funding from this grant must be matched by a $1 co-contribution.

In-kind co-contributions do not count towards the required co-contribution but can still be listed under other contributions in the budget section of the application form.
